ZIMBABWE
What a year it was! We funded our first learning center, established a small micro-loan program, assisted and empowered artists and recent graduates of the orphanage to sell their products and coordinating a small bus purchase for children to have safer transport to school each day. November 2006, I was given the opportunity to serve. I looked at a few thousand pictures of a place once overflowing with beauty.
Today, the beauty mostly lies within the people because of economic hardship the county has faced what most humans can’t even imagine. I chose to change my life and do a little something extra, more than I normally would, to give back to humanity. I heard, “How noble!” , but it required a switch from living a comfortable life to eating mac and cheese on a more regular basis.
I heard about an orphanage in Zimbabwe (the Mother of Peace Orphanage) that needed $10,000 to complete a learning center. That goal seemed one that I could tackle. I jumped head first into the development of a campaign. I blogged about on Wordpress. I pledged to do what I could. That project and campaign changed my life. We helped complete the learning center in April 2007. It was our very first project. We continue to support the children and people of Zimbabwe through smaller projects.
